Challenges
Trestique's website struggled with several issues at the same time. The storefront looked messy and unorganized, and problems with mobile responsiveness kept popping up, impacting the user's shopping experience.
But the main challenge was technical. The site wasn’t stable, so every time the team added a new feature or tried out a creative concept, something would break. It became so difficult to make progress that they stopped trying new ideas at all.
On top of that, Trestique wanted to create something specific: a "Build Your Own" makeup kit. They aimed to let customers choose each item in their kit, like foundations, concealers, blush sticks, sponges, and even makeup bags, and buy it all together as one set. It sounds simple enough, but executing this specific feature on Shopify turned out to be tricky. The client was also looking for a way to apply custom discounts to these kits during checkout. And that become a real challenge on how to apply the feature without messing up the backend was a big challenge.
They needed a partner to build this in a straightforward way. It had to work for the customer upfront and not turn into a mess to manage behind the scenes. That’s when they connected with Lucent Innovation.

Solutions
Off-the-shelf apps just wouldn’t do the job in this case. We built a custom solution on Shopify Plus from the ground up. This solution was made to manage Trestique’s complex demands and stay strong under pressure.
The main challenge was building discount logic. Using Shopify's Script Editor, we set up bundled pricing that worked in the background while being simple for customers during checkout. No awkward shortcuts or unreliable third-party tools were used; it was simple logic doing what it was supposed to do.
The cart ended up being the trickiest part. Shopify didn’t offer an official bundle app back then, so we built our own custom solution. A customer could pick ten separate products for their kit, but the cart displayed it as one bundled item. If they changed quantities, removed anything, or made edits during the session, every change updated across the whole bundle. It might seem straightforward at a glance, but making it work took serious dedication, logic, and coding.
We completely redid the side cart drawer from scratch. Instead of showing individual products, the cart count displayed the number of bundles. That might seem like a minor thing, but it changed how customers interacted with the store. We added smart suggestions to upsell and included a progress bar to show how close buyers were to earning free shipping. Since we didn’t want Trestique to call a developer whenever they needed to make changes, we built them a dashboard. With it, they can update prices, adjust bundle setups, or handle promotions all by themselves.
We chose ReactJS to ensure smooth performance and an SEO-friendly setup. Alongside it, we used Liquid to create flexible and reusable themes for the Shopify storefront. This blend gave us a fast and reliable codebase that's simple to expand as the brand evolves.
